DIY Spice Paint

Posted by Jenny

What an awesome way to start our beautiful fall morning! On Fridays, we do a paint activity. I was excited for this one because it’s a sensory and art activity. All you need is some finger paint and some spices. Today, I had an extra busy morning so, I opted to use store bought paint. Here is my link to my DIY Finger Paint Recipe. It’s taste safe for little ones. The girls enjoyed mixing in the spices. We talked about each spice. We smelled them and then painted with them. It has inspired me to make some type of fall spice cookie or muffin this weekend! Yum!

Ingredients

1 Red Paint

1 Yellow Paint

1 Orange Paint

1 tsp Cinnamon

1 tsp Pumpkin Pie Spice *

1 tsp Vanilla Extract

Instructions

  1. Pour paint into bowls
  2. Measure and add spices to each bowl
  3. Mix together
  4. PAINT

Definitely, let your kids help you measure and mix the paint. You can use all different colors and spices. These are just the spices I had. If you have primary colors, remember that red + yellow = orange

*If you don’t have any pumpkin pie spice, you can make your own if you have some other spices like cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and allspice.

It does get super thick so you can add a little water or more paint. We left it as is. It worked great and the girls had lots of fun. I can’t wait to try this again. We will be making DIY spice dough soon! If you want to check out what we will be doing in October click here.
